Yves Tanguy Drawings
Yves Tanguy the Surrealist artist who made paintings of strange volumes in an expansive surreal landscape also made drawings. I have also loved the colours of Tanguy’s paintings the ethereal blues with the range of greys. I feel there is some sort of affinity with his work and my own. These are a few of his painings as shown on wikiart.com
I did remember that he had completed drawings but I was, at the time drawn to Masson’s automatic drawings. I came across a website dedicated to cataloguing his drawings, Yves Tanguy Drawings Though the site is not completed it gives you an idea of these wonderful drawings of dream like things in an expansive space. I like how marks on the paper allude to something but it is unclear how and their relationship to other elements in the work also remain ambigious. They are inbetween symbols, mark-making and representation. His drawings also use scale to suggest depth carefully creating a sense of space.
